Delaunay - Synopsis

Synopsis

Among the curiosities of the family home is a surprising little theater built by Anatole for his wife Alice. Abandoned since her death, it has recently been reborn thanks to OXO, master of illusions and escapology, who chose to settle there to prepare his next show.

This masked magician is renowned for his spectacular and innovative tricks. He has entrusted us butlers with the search for his new wizard assistants and we can put you at the top of the list.

OXO happens to be the last person to have seen Anatole before his disappearance. This job interview is the perfect opportunity to check if he hasn't been removed from the list of suspects a little too early...

FAQ

  • What is the recommended group size for The Theater of Illusions?

The Theater of Illusions is an escape game designed for groups of 3 to 6 people. It is possible to play with just 2 people if you already have some experience with escape games. It is also possible to play with 7 people if you prefer the group experience and being together. Otherwise, for groups of 7 or more, we suggest booking two sessions back-to-back (30 minutes apart), and you can let us know in the comments section of your reservation if you’d like a joint briefing by arriving together at the start time of the first session.
  • In what order should I play the rooms?

All of our rooms follow the central storyline of Anatole Delaunay’s disappearance. Each one provides you with a piece of the puzzle to help you understand what happened. You can therefore play them in any order. However, if you wish to play them one after another in a single visit, we recommend playing the Théâtre des Illusions first, followed by the Chambre de Swan (with a 1.5-hour gap between sessions) for a smoother experience.
  • Can I change the number of players after I’ve made my reservation?

Yes, that’s possible. Just send us a text message (+33 7 56 90 69 16) to let us know about the change. You’ll pay the difference on-site. Please note that the price of the difference is not the same as the per-person rate, which is discounted based on the number of players. If you’re unsure of the number of participants, it’s best to book for fewer people initially and contact us once you’ve finalized the number of people.
  • Can I pay with ANCV Chèques-Vacances? Chèques-Vacances Connect?

Yes, we accept all ANCV Chèques-Vacances! However, you must pay a deposit by credit card when booking on the website to secure your session. You can pay the remainder of your session on-site, either with physical Chèques-Vacances or by scanning the QR code generated by the cash register for Chèques-Vacances Connect. We do not give change for physical checks. You can always complete your payment by credit card or cash on-site.
  • When I was booking, my time slot disappeared. What should I do?

When you start the booking process by selecting a time slot, it is reserved for you for 15 minutes. This prevents two bookings from being made simultaneously. If you unfortunately left the booking page and then returned to it, you must wait for this 15-minute period to elapse before proceeding with the booking again.
  • How do I get to Casse-Tête Delaunay by car?

It’s not easy to find parking downtown—it’s practically impossible on Saturday nights. We recommend parking at the Opéra or Hôtel de Ville underground parking garages (they can sometimes be full on Saturday nights). Be sure to factor in parking time into your travel time to avoid being late. If you have a choice, we recommend taking public transportation.
  • How do I get to Casse-Tête Delaunay by public transportation?

Very easy! You can get off at the C Croix-Paquet metro stop (1-minute walk) or the A Hôtel de Ville metro stop (5-minute walk). There are also many buses (C23, 9, 59, S1, S6) that serve Hôtel de Ville, and a Vélo’v bike-share station nearby at Place Tolozan.
  • What do I need to know before I arrive?

Check your reservation email for the date and time of your session; the email also contains the code for the entrance gate. Please arrive 10 minutes before your session starts. If this is your first visit, you can learn more about the reason for your invitation at the Delaunay family home. You can find more information in "The Investigation” section of this website.
  • What should I wear to play an escape game?

It’s best to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. Avoid heels and clothes that are too tight.
  • Is The Theater of Illusions suitable for children?

We recommend The Theater of Illusions for ages 12 and up. Our escape rooms are designed to immerse you in a specific world. Some of the effects in the rooms may startle or unsettle those who are sensitive or not yet able to distinguish between reality and the game. Additionally, even though our rooms feature themes that may appeal to children, the puzzles are designed for adults. We recommend having a sufficient number of adults in the room (at least two) to help advance the investigation. If you have any doubts or questions, please feel free to contact us by phone to discuss your group’s needs. We will be happy to answer your questions.
  • Are the rooms at Casse-Tête Delaunay suitable for beginners?

Yes, the rooms are perfectly suitable for people who have never played an escape game before. Our rooms are not timed. The butler who welcomes you will be there to guide you through your investigation so you can fully enjoy the adventure. Feel free to let him know that this is your first investigation!
  • How long do the Casse-Tête Delaunay rooms last?

We offer narrative escape games where the story is more important than the time it takes to solve the puzzle. We do not have a timer in the rooms. The durations listed are estimates. Just plan to spend about an hour and a half there, enjoy the story to the fullest, and have fun!
  • Can the rooms be played in English?

Our rooms are fully translated into English, and our butlers are fluent in the vocabulary needed to welcome you in the language of Shakespeare. If your group includes both French and English speakers, we can provide the documents in both languages.
  • Is The Theater of Illusions accessible to people with disabilities?

The Theater of Illusions is not accessible to people with limited mobility, as it is located on the first floor of the Maison des Delaunay. However, if the person is able to climb stairs, once upstairs the venue is on one level and provides seating in every room. Although not all puzzles are suitable for all types of disabilities, please feel free to let us know your specific situation in the comments section of your reservation, and we will make every possible adjustment to make as many puzzles as possible accessible to you.
  • How much time should I allow for the visit?

Regardless of the estimated duration of your escape game, please allow about an hour and a half on-site, including the briefing, the game, and the debriefing.
  • How do I use my gift certificate?

If you have a gift certificate for Casse-tête Delaunay, enter the code printed on your certificate when you make your reservation. The code is in the format XXX-XXX-XXX, and the hyphens are included. If your gift certificate doesn’t work, please contact us so we can help resolve the issue.
  • Is it possible to film or take photos inside the rooms?

To ensure that everyone is completely surprised by the contents of the rooms, it is strictly forbidden to take photos, film, or use your phones during the session. Treat yourself to a rare moment of disconnection by leaving your phone in the designated storage areas for your belongings before entering the rooms.
  • I’d like to make an announcement during the game (birth, marriage proposal, etc.). Is that possible?

Yes. Please contact us by phone or email so we can discuss how to incorporate your announcement or request into the story. We’ve done this before and have options for customizing the experience.
  • Can pregnant women play the Casse-Tête Delaunay escape rooms?

Yes. Please be sure to mention this in the comments section of your reservation and let the butler who greets you know so that he can tailor your experience accordingly.
  • Will I get to see the end of the story if I only play one room?

Each of our rooms has its own story with its own conclusion. So you’ll definitely experience a complete adventure during your visit. That said, we hope that what you discover at the end of your story will leave you wanting to learn more.
  • Can I drink alcohol before coming to play?

As stated in our terms and conditions. The butler who greets you also reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs, for the safety of that person and those around them. Denial of entry does not entitle you to any compensation or refund.
  • Are we really locked in the rooms?

No, you are never locked in, and you can always exit the way you entered. The goal of our rooms is not to escape but to experience a story with its twists and surprises. However, leaving the room without informing your butler is considered the end of the game.
  • Are we filmed inside the rooms?

Yes, this allows us to monitor your progress in real time and guide you through your adventure. However, the footage is not recorded.
